The Jaime and Blanca Jarrin Foundation and Los Defensores have partnered to Award Journalism and Law Student Scholarships to Further Their Mission of Empowering the Latino Community
Los Angeles, CA – Los Defensores, an L.A.-based legal services company, has partnered with The Jaime and Blanca Jarrin Foundation to award five, $5,000 scholarships to undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a degree in journalism or communication and two $12,500 scholarships to graduate law students. A total of $50,000 in scholarships will be awarded to college or university recipients with a goal of furthering the mission to empower the Latino community.
Los Defensores is committed to serving their community and believes a student’s dreams should not go unrealized because the cost of education is too great a burden. By awarding these scholarships to law and journalism students who desire to serve the Latino community, Los Defensores aims to further its work to provide Latinos hassle-free access to legal help.
Scholarship Requirements
In order to qualify, students must have:
- A 3.0 GPA or higher
- In need of financial aid
- Previous service in the Latino community
- A letter of recommendation from someone in the local community
- Currently enrolled at a California-based Liberal Arts School with an interest in journalism
or law
The Jaime and Blanca Jarrin Foundation and Los Defensores know that one lawyer or journalist can make an impact on their community, and they consider it an honor to help students who have not only shown academic excellence, but who also have a desire to give back.

2022 Scholarship Application Deadlines
Scholarship applications open on October 24th, 2022. Applications will be due on November 20th. Finalists will be contacted for live interviews between November 28th and December 5th.
Final scholarship recipients will be notified on December 16th, 2022.
